We camped at Cape Disappointment State Park, which was not a disappointment at all. It was beautiful! Here is a picture of the Columbia River meeting the Pacific Ocean. The distant mountains are in Oregon, on the other side of the river!

Upon arrival we spent some time at Benson Beach (windy!)

It didn’t take long before Landry was chasing and being chased by the surf (frothy!)

Back at camp we warmed up by the fire

Before retreating to the relative warmth of our tent (emphasis on relative)

On Wednesday morning, after a very chilly breakfast (43 degrees inside), we hiked through the forest to the North Head Lighthouse

It was a newt-filled trail (we spotted 14!) with impressive ups and downs

Both kids loved exploring the wilds around our campsite. It might have been their favorite part of the trip

They’d run off to explore, then dash back periodically with pink cheeks

We were often cold but also had a lot of fun

The kids learned about fire safety

We explored the Coastal Forest Trail on our last morning. This particular spur trail was hazardous but beautiful
