White River camping

We ventured into the gorgeous Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest this week

Our first hike took us to Sheep Lake, which is along the Pacific Crest Trail!

Hazel dipped her feet into the alpine water

Then we found a picturesque picnic spot

This table rock became a landmark on the way up

So we stopped here on the way back down

Hazel counted every step of her descent: just over 5500!

We set up camp at our new favorite site (#31)

And headed down our private trail to the White River to cool off

We were lucky to have a calm area in which to wade. Outside the sandbar the river was raging (Also, have you ever seen a whiter river?)

The next morning: Mount Rainier’s Sunrise area

We encountered some unexpected conditions (foreshadowing)

Frozen Lake living up to its name

The breathtaking calm before the snow

We did about a quarter mile of sliding down this stuff. The grownups were 100% holding the children up. Quite an adventure!

Yes, Landry’s in! (Back at the campsite)

Later: tired kids roasting dogs

Day 3: Grove of the Patriarchs

Our trail was along the crystal-clear Ohanapecosh River

The towering trees did not disappoint

But the bouncy one-person-at-a-time suspension bridge was unforgettable!
